I applied online for a Business Analyst position at Platt College. Soon after, I was contacted by personnel regarding this position and she conducted a short phone interview to discuss my background and experience. I was then invited to an on-site interview at their Alhambra location. Every thing seemed above board at this point. I came to the on-site meeting at the Alhambra campus (No front office or reception) where I had to find the correct office with no help, took some lame half-brained intelligence assessment (AKA-IQ test) administered by student interns not personnel. I then interviewed for about an hour and it went well except for the fact that they were relocating from Alhambra to Anaheim, which is about 30 miles away. Strange, since this was never mentioned in any conversation or correspondence prior to meeting on-site. The next day I had a verbal offer, via email, from the same non-professional who purported to be and apparently misrepresented themselves as intake personnel. By the way, emails (Contracts, employment offers, etc.) are now considered as written agreements. I should have known something was amiss when this happened and she also asked age related questions.
Then things really went horribly wrong with the background check. I authorized the background check, drug screen, provided my SSN and DOB, and my job verification references. This organization uses a highly questionable background check company to conduct background searches. This background check company is notoriously unreliable and disreputable and was fined $2.6 million in 2012 by the FTC for multiple violations of the FCRA. It got even worse from here. I was never sent a drug screen form for any lab either by email, direct mail, or shipping/delivery. Since this occurred, the less than professional novice emailed me that the offer was rescinded/revoked since I failed to take a drug test that I never received any notification for or direction to undergo. To emphasize, there was no formal drug screen form received and the background check was inordinately difficult as well as half-brained/incomplete. Sadly and unfortunately, this ultimately cost me the job due to Platt College's gross incompetence and ineptitude.
With all that has transpired in this monumental travesty I have learned a few things and I hope you can too without enduring my suffering. One, never trust or deal with a self-described and so-called on- boarding rep. She was an ingénue, and by all definition, untrained, unqualified, and extremely unprofessional in her conduct and operation. Two, this organization misrepresents itself as an academic institution with stringent and fair hiring practices, policies, protocols, and procedures right up there with some of the most current so-called colleges who have lost their accreditation or worse (Just check the current news and you will know who). Three, I will never again seek employment or career fulfillment with a deceitful organization that peddles useless degrees and is essentially a diploma mill. To summarize, do not waste your time pursuing work at an organization when their primary line of business and employment practices are, at best, questionable. Academic institutions used to be transparent, trustworthy, and honorable. Unfortunately, this is hardly the case in this instance and in my experience. In retrospect, I am better off without them degrading my profession, career path, and respect for academia. Hopefully, this review will help you to avoid this abysmal failure of an organization that, by its very nature, will implode, collapse, and self-destruct due to its own mismanagement and lack of professionalism. PROSPECT BEWARE!!!
