      Business Development Manager Interview

      3 Oct 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at REX in Sept 2019

      Interview

2 phone calls and then canceled lunch meeting day before citing that they are going in another direction. The hiring manager for this position seemed to not know how to handle the hiring process. Seems to be new to a mangerial role. When I followed-up with an email asking when should I expect to hear back his response was: "Please be patient. We dont move quickly." Should have known that was a red flag considering he was not courteous enough to give a clear answer and did not appreciate my follow-up. Furthermore, he did not take a holistic view at my background. I am a highly experienced BD professional and have been a licensed broker for 8 years. Was at the third step in the process which was a lunch meeting with one of his associates. Day before the lunch meeting his associate calls to cancel citing "we are going with someone that lives in the market." Seemed quite odd considering I told him distance wasnt an issue. Called the hiring manager and gives me a completely different answer saying that he heard negative stuff about me and will pass. Confused by this I proceeded to ask him how this could be considering I have never heard any major negative feedback and they continue to ask me to do contract work. When I asked for feedback he stated "I will not play this he said, she said stuff and sorry this is just the way it is." I am glad that it worked out this way. This is clearly not someone you'd want to have a working relationship with and was a sign for how his managerial style was. Thank you for allowing me to avoid a bad situation.
