I applied through university. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Rockefeller University (New York, NY) in Apr 2015
Interview
I came across the application through my University's career development website. The first phase was of the process was to submit my transcript and resume. If satisfactory, HR then asked to schedule an interview with you, after which you were asked to submit 3 letters of recommendation, a formal transcript, and a brief summary of past research experience and skills. HR would then distribute your complete application to different labs to evaluate. If they were impressed, you would then come in for a final interview with the specific PI and/or person you would be working with.

Question 1
Tell me about the project you were working on in your previous lab.
Very simple, one interview with HR, second interview with hiring manager. Then waited for 1 month and received the offer letter. The HR person first came to college to talk about the University

This is a very professional and organized interview. First HR interview and then lab will reach out. Easy application and follow up steps. I highly recommend this to anyone looking to get into research.
