Rumpl interview questions

I had a virtual interview with their head of finance. First 20 minutes were basically just him talking about how great he was. Listed all of his personal accomplishments and accolades, very awkward to sit and listen to when I was expecting actual interview questions. He touted their unlimited PTO policy, then proceeded to suggest I never take more than 1-2 weeks off per year. Lastly he admitted they pay below market value but didn’t think it was a problem because of “how great their culture was and they only wanted people who were passionate about their products anyways.” I asked a question about the backlash the founder got for being on Shark Tank as an already well established company, which clearly made him upset and defensive as well. Very awkward. It’s the only interview I’ve ever had where I almost stopped it mid call, it would not have been a good fit. I enjoy competition but this company felt like I would constantly be on edge. I did not respond to a request for a second round interview and went with a remote position with another start up company instead.

The interview process was long but thorough. I actually appreciated the time and attention once interviews were booked on the calendar. There was a screener interview and then the second round was a 9 person zoom with various members of the cross-functional team.
