      Freelance Writer Interview

      7 Nov 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Kennesaw, GA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at RushCube (Kennesaw, GA) in Mar 2017

      Interview

I am reposting this interview review again because my last one was either never posted or deleted, and I want others to know the truth about this company (which is certainly not reflected in the reviews). I applied to be a freelance writer for this company. Within hours of submitting my application, I received a phone call from a manager who gave me a quick phone interview, then asked if I could come in the afternoon of the next day for an interview. Note that we explicitly talked about me being a freelance writer because I did not want to commute from Decatur to Kennesaw on a daily basis. I managed to get out of work early to make the trip up to Kennesaw, which was a hassle considering they gave me such little notice. When I got to the building, there was no signage to indicate that Rushcube was even there, though there were for all of the other companies within the building. I found the office and saw that there was a clipboard with multiple sign-in sheets, most of which were full. The majority of these sign-ins were others interviewing for that particular day and the day before. I waited for a while, then was brought in by another hiring manager. He was misinformed about what position I was applying for (he thought I was applying for a full-time, in house position), and seemed annoyed that I wanted flexible hours and work from home capabilities. We looked over the rushcube website together, where he explained that copywriters had editors look over the information before posting to the site. Yet in the few minutes of looking over the page, I saw so many errors in the writing. The manager seemed completely unprepared for the interview, and had to continuously check over information online (such as questions and the rushcube page for inspiration) and my resume. He also asked for my writing samples, which were provided in the application. In the middle of the interview, he looked behind me at the doorway to his office and started chucking. I was right in the middle of a sentence and paused, then he explained that the original manager who called was apparently behind me making a joke. When the hiring manager decided that the interview was over, he simply said "I have no other questions for you". I can confidently say that this was the only interview that I've ever had where I wasn't offered a time to ask questions. And based off of all of the loose ends of the company and interview process, I had many questions. I had to actually tell him that I had questions, which also seemed to annoy him. He ended the interview by restating that he did not have any more questions for me. Needless to say, I did not get a call back, and would have rejected any offer immediately. I have had weird interviewing experiences in the past, but this was hands down the least professional (and embarrassing) interview that I have ever been in. If you are applying here, be wary of the other reviews, I feel like there is a lot of bias on this page, and am very skeptical about my initial review being omitted. While I am hopeful that the management and team transitioned from what I saw in May, I still am not confident that this company would earn 5 star reviews in such a short span of time.
