A few days ago, I get an email from a recruiter telling me my resume indicates that I am qualified for the Customer Service Representative position. I give them several phone calls to set up an in-person interview, as instructed from the email. After several unanswered phone calls, they finally call me back. They set me up an interview the very next day. I had to cancel family plans and put my life on hold, because gosh darn it, they needed me in AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
So I go into my interview, and the receptionist is very nice, personable, and friendly. She sets me up to take a computer assessment. I score "extremely high" according to her. Then, I sit down and wait for my actual interview. Five minutes later, a robotic African American lady with zero personality or sense of humor walks me into a small, dingy, cluttered room in the corner. Devoid of any color; stuffy from floor to ceiling. She sits behind a desktop computer, never ONCE even looking into my eyes, asking me an entire hour's worth of questions in a monotone, scripted manner. She then attempts to poke as many holes in my resume as possible, at one point even outright calling me a liar, just because I didn't bring my resume with me. About 40 minutes into the interview, I am getting uncomfortable, and I begin to realize the interviewer made up her mind LONG before even asking me any questions.
After we're done, the receptionist greets us with her unusually wide smile. "Hire?" she asks. The interviewer shakes her head as says in front of me "No. Send back to recruiting." Almost as if I wasn't even there. At the end of the day, I am not upset I didn't get hired. After seeing an hour of the so-called "company culture," I was eager to get the heck out of there, let alone WORK for those people. The part I am upset about, however, is the fact that these people CONTACT ME, tell me my resume makes me a good fit for them, DEMAND I drop everything and come into an interview, waste hours of my life, just for them to interview me as if I were applying to become the president of the United States of America. It is no wonder these people are constantly "hiring."
