I interviewed at Solar Turbines (San Diego, CA)

      Interview

I was contacted directly by a supply chain manager at Solar Turbines for a phone screening. My resume clearly outlines my experience across multiple industries and long-term engagements with well-known brands. The experience was weird and odd from the start. The manager sounded stressed, and interrogative. Her questions were scattered and disorganized. She jumped from topic to topic without any clear structure. It felt less like a professional screening and more like a subjective and biased interaction. About five minutes into a scheduled 20 minute call, while I was responding to one of her basic screening questions, she cut me off abruptly and said she did not think I was a fit because I lacked industry experience. If my background was not what she was looking for, it raises the question of why she reached out and scheduled time in the first place. For someone who reached out to me, the defensiveness was surprising. My resume is public and detailed. If my background was not a match, the call should never have happened, or why would I even consider Solar Turbines as my next venture? It left me questioning whether the issue was my experience or her comfort level with someone who does not fit the traditional mold. I have spent over a decade progressively and aggressively growing towards my current title. I have interviewed with several companies recently and this is the first time in my professional life I have experienced anything like this. The interaction felt unprofessional and dismissive. It gave me a clear signal about the culture and leadership style at this organization. I dodged a bullet.
