I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Standard Cognition (San Francisco, CA) in Jan 2021
Interview
Consisted of an introductory interview and a "technical interview" with a hiring manager.
For an interview with a person that is supposed to be a technical person, even though in a management position, it was extremely shallow.
Mostly about my experiences in other companies. There's a lot of overlap between my past experiences and the requirements for the role by the way, even in the specifics, that is, the technical stack.
I have experience with all of the major components of their tech stack.
Everything seemed to be going well until the 30 minutes reserved for the interview ended.
Dude seemed angry and dismissed me abruptly.
Maybe he was having a bad day, I don't know. If so, well deserved. I wish for many more bad days to come to this person!
I spent quite a bit of time trying to figure out what could have possibly struck a nerve on the guy.
On hindsight, maybe the issue was that one of my questions revealed that their platform is not all they claim to be.
They claim to be a "an artificial intelligence platform that allows buyers to grab what they want without having to go to a cashier".
I've found that that in fact they need cashiers... it's not fully automated. They have issues tracking products with computer vision alone, thus they need a cashier to double check it.
I swear I wasn't an a-hole about it. I let it go quickly and moved on to other questions. I wasn't judgmental or facetious. That's a hard problem.
Maybe he had a self realization at that moment. "Oh, God. My whole life is a lie, and California just raised taxes again...". Go figure...
To investors: Money well invested, my dudes! lol Next time invest on Amazon Go. lol.
