      Writer Interview

      25 Nov 2018
      Anonymous employee
      Lynnwood, WA
      Accepted offer
      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Stela (Lynnwood, WA) in Aug 2018

      Interview

The company does not yet have an HR department, so my initial phone interview was with another writer at the company who is also helping with recruitment. This conversation was less about my work history and more about my interests (TV, movies, books, anime, etc). I was then invited to an in-person interview, where I spoke with my potential supervisor as well as the CEO. If I gave an insufficient or unsatisfactory answer to a question (such as a “greatest weakness” that wasn’t revealing enough), I was asked to dig deeper. There were actually very few questions, and I mostly waited while the CEO talked. There were several moments where the CEO stressed that there were many other people going for this job, but the lack of real questions asked made me wonder whether this was really true. What seemed more important was a series of “quizzes” testing my abilities with dialogue, editing, and marketing copy. I was invited to a second in-person interview, and while the CEO reiterated the many people also vying for the position, I was asked no further questions beyond whether I would accept the job description, which had changed from my initial application, along with the salary offer, which was well below my asking price.
