I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Stripe (San Francisco, CA) in May 2022
Interview
By far the longest and most convoluted interviewing experience I've ever been through. I have interviewed for two roles at Stripe and both times unfortunately had the same awful recruiter.
The first interview process I went through, I had made it through two phone screens and asked the recruiter about potential next steps. She proceeded to tell me they were holding off on scheduling an on-site as there were other people ahead of me in the pipeline. I felt disrespected by this and withdrew my application. 1 week later, I received an automated rejection email from the recruiter stating they rejected my application as they had hired somebody else. Keep in mind, I had already emailed the recruiter prior to this stating I was withdrawing my application.
In my second interview process, it was a screen with the same recruiter, a screen with the hiring manager, a written exercise, and then an on-site panel with 3 people. I had to chase the recruiter multiple times for feedback and next steps. At one point, the recruiter said they would schedule a prep call with me for my on-site interview, and after my chasing, scheduled my prep for a day before my on-site.
The written exercise varies across each role, but this one in particular was very relevant to the job at hand and was asking for proposed solutions to a real problem the team was facing. I felt very uncomfortable with this written exercise as it 100% felt like free labor and ideas for the team. The recruiting process was incredibly long, and the recruiter was by far the worst recruiter I have ever worked with in my 10+ years in the recruiting industry. I would not recommend interviewing at Stripe.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
- Why Stripe?
- Describe a time you faced resilience in the face of ambiguity.
- Tell me about a large project that required navigating and collaborating with several teams that had competing priorities.
- How do you handle XFN communication?
- How do you consider impact of the user in all of your decisions?
- Tell me about a time you took a risk that failed. What was the situation and outcome and what did you learn?
I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Stripe (Atlanta, GA) in Mar 2026
Interview
Pretty tough recruiter prescreen, interview the following week was with the hiring manager. Lots of STAR questions with deep dives into my answers, and answering fictional scenarios. Next was an assignment, put a lot of time into this and received a canned e-mail informing me I'm not moving forward. Recruiter was VERY responsive.

Question 1
Tell me about a time you had to deal with difficult stakeholders?
Phone screen followed by a series of questions detailing a complex problem I had solved. The second question was around missing an important goal and to detail the steps you would take in that scenario.
I interviewed at Stripe in June 2025 and was given a written assignment before moving on to interviews. After spending a week working on a very long and tedious assignment, I was rejected immediately with no interview. No feedback was provided. I would expect unprofessionalism from this organization and the possibility that your work may just be taken. It is evident that they do not value a clear and fair recruiting process.
