The interview process started out really great: The recruiter set up meetings with all relevant employees and promptly answered all of my questions and took the time to prepare me for each stage in the interview process.
Following the final round however, things took a turn for the worse. I was told following my interview to expect a decision by EOW. At the end of the week, the recruiter said that the team liked me and were likely to move forward but were waiting on one more applicant to finish the process to be fair. This sounded reasonable, but ultimately turned into 4 weeks of "we need one more week". By the end of the 4 weeks, the recruiter finally got back to me and said that the team wanted me for another role at Toast and asked if I was interested.
At this point, I was pretty put off with how I was being treated and dragged along, but I figured I've come this far, I might as well discuss the other role.
The second round of interviews was worse than the first. The role was brand new and neither the recruiter nor the director could really explain the job description but gave me a case presentation based around the job with a 2 day turnaround. With both the role and the case being new and untested, the content was really unclear and my questions weren't answered until after I had to put together the presentation. Needless to say, my presentation didn't capture the role well. Ultimately, it felt like Toast didn't really value their applicants time.
Fast forward a few months, they've reached out to me again to interview for a new role that they would like me to try for. I love what Toast does, and the team I met seemed like really great people, but my past interview process was a real deterrent and brings up questions of what working there would be like.
