Applied from abroad and had a few pleasant conversations with HR and another team lead (data engineering).
They asked me to send them some code. Never actually got a feedback about it. This was followed by a third round interview with the senior manager I’d be reporting to, as well as a senior data scientist from the team. The process moved quickly.
During the final interview, they mentioned they’d like me to start in about three weeks, to which I agreed. They also said they'd like to meet me in person in Prague, ideally the following week or the one after. I agreed, booked a flight, and sent them the travel details so they could schedule the final meeting.
However, silence followed. I had to call HR myself, only to be told they had chosen someone else, apparently a candidate who had prior experience with one of their major clients and had just appeared at the last moment.
At least I got a nice trip to Prague out of it. Next time, I’ll be better prepared for the possibility of ghosting and will insist on having everything in writing. Apparently, they’re either shy in person or just very slow to respond to emails, otherwise, I can’t explain being treated this way.
