      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Trinity Health

      Interview

The recruiter was biased/racist. In every job application, you list what your eligibility to work for the company in the USA is, including a separate question asking if you need sponsorship for a visa. The first email I get from the recruiter, while not even telling me which position it is for, asks for my salary range (very normal question) and what my exact eligibility to work in the USA is. I have a "non-white" name, so this man already had a bias that I was unable to work for the company. Again, if there weren't already two questions on the application asking for this, I wouldn't have thought anything of it. But if my name was Jane Doe, the recruiter wouldn't have even asked. I give my salary range, which was below the highest listed salary offered on the job description. The recruiter then tells me that anything over a certain amount is "difficult" to get, so I should not try. I say that the recruiter mentioned it was difficult, not impossible. He then tries in three more emails to get me to pull out of the job application. The thing about not-for-profit companies is that they cannot reject a candidate that is qualified. Candidates have to match the job description and if they do, there needs to be a legitimate reason for rejecting the candidate in moving forward. This racist man was trying his hardest to get me to pull out. After I insisted I wanted to continue with the hiring process, he said he'd send over my info to the hiring manager, but to not get my hopes up. Of course, I would never want to work for a terrible company where HR is actively trying to get American citizens, who don't fit a specific "ethnicity," to not join the company. But I refuse to be the one to turn a cheek and backdown because you don't like my name.
