      HR Generalist Interview

      16 Apr 2026
      Anonymous employee
      London, England
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at TryHackMe (London, England) in Mar 2026

      Interview

Very enjoyable interview process. It all felt very streamlined and well organised. Daryl was excellent at communicating timelines to me. I had to create a presentation based on a set task criteria which I presented to members of TA and HR. I was super impressed by the criteria brief I was given for the task, it was extremely well laid out and lots of detail was given! After I finished the presentation, I had a further 30 min interview which allowed me to also ask any questions I had about the role and company. Following on from the presentation, I took part in an interview with one of the founders which was really interesting! It was great to be able to get to know more about the company and again ask any buring questions I had.

      Interview

Received an automated email a week ago telling me they have successfully hired for the role after radio silence for 2 months and then seen the role has been advertised again. Maybe try not to lie and offer a genuine feedback reason to candidates the next time as candidates have to spend time applying for the role too.

Thank you for your review. I’m Daryl the person who sent out those emails. I’m really sorry you feel there was radio silence as I know how much work goes into an application. I wanted to share what was happening on our end, just so you know we weren't being dishonest. We actually did hire someone in January. However, during their notice period, their current company gave them a massive counter-offer that we simply couldn't match. During this time we rejected everyone in process, because we thought we made the hire. However... when we didnt we had to re-advertise the role immediately (this is what you wouldve seen). Since we already had a few great people in the final stages from the first round, we were able to move very quickly the second time around. I know it can feel like a "bot" is just clicking buttons, but it’s just me and our Head of Ops looking at every single CV. With tens of thousands of applications coming through across the business and with a very lean People team, we unfortunately just don't have the hours in the day to give everyone the individual feedback they deserve - though we do try to be upfront about that in our first email which you should've got after applying? I hope this gives you some peace of mind that there was a real person behind the decision. Truly, I wish you the best of luck with your next move.

      Interview

I applied for TryHackMe in February 2026. After reading a few blogs on their websites, how they describe their working business model, and the reviews on glassdoor, the red flags were already heavily raised but the salary looked good so I decided to continue. They asked me to complete an automated 5 video interview because they ‘don’t have time to interview everybody individually in the first round’, red flag number 4. Despite only giving a 2 day lead time to complete these videos, I then didn’t hear back from anybody for 10 days. When I did hear back, they said they’d be in touch in the next day or two, to either proceed to the next level or let me know I wasn’t successful. Queue another 7 days, they emailed me to let me know they had offered the job to somebody else! I now realize the salary is so high because it appears as they don’t have any actual structure in place for their operations team, and it looks like i’d have been working on that upwards of 8 hours a day. A massive bullet dodged.

Thanks for taking the time to share this and I’m (Daryl, TA team) genuinely sorry your experience felt like this. You’re right that we had some movement in the People team around that time, which did unfortunately cause delays in responses - that’s on us and we’ve since put more structure in place so candidates aren’t left waiting or unsure where they stand. In regard to the video interview step - as we’ve scaled the TA team we’ve had to introduce an early filtering stage because of the volume of applications, with 7 million consumers we receive a lot of people who want to work at THM. The VI tool helps us screen more fairly and consistently and the questions are recorded by us rather than being generic so it still feels as personal as possible - we only ever used this for non-technical roles and recently moved away from using this at all, On the culture piece, we’re pretty open that TryHackMe is fast-paced and intense. That’s intentional given the market we’re in and the stage we’re at, but it also means it won’t be the right fit for everyone, which I hope you see we are honest about. We’re growing quickly and, while that’s exciting, we don’t always get everything right first time. Appreciate the feedback though, it genuinely helps us keep improving - I will certainly be looking at the concerns raised!
