I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at US Postal Service (Poughkeepsie, NY) in Oct 2013
Interview
Filled out app online, Took personality test online, took proctored exam, got a score of 83.6. 2 weeks later got an email to take a drug test and background check. I was surprised it took that long to hear back. A few days later was invited to a group interview in a location 45 min from where I applied at. The Group was very large, they had to call in extra Postmasters (5) total, in order to get through all of the interviews, it seemed very unorganized. It took 3 hours before my name was called for my individual interview. The Postmasters all were very nice and had a good sense of humor. It made the process very comfortable. No hard questions just basic information about your past job experience, safety & accountability, etc. It took 1 week after interview to get an offer. I Will start training in 2 1/2 weeks in one of two locations (they are still not sure yet) the training facilities are 1-2 hours away from the location on which I applied to and will work out of. The post office will reimburse your mileage for having to travel, it is just very inconvenient and time consuming. If I wasn't in a desperate situation for work I don't know if I would go through all of there hoops, it gets really old fast. It is a VERY long and dragged out process! Hard to wait weeks for an answer or instructions for the next step when you are unemployed and need immediate work! Every step of it took 1-2 weeks. You are on edge the whole time wondering what is going on & it is not clear or told to you how long you will have to wait before being informed of the next step. There is nobody to contact in the meantime to see if you are still in the running to be hired being everything is done by computer generated e-mail. You just wait and hope it was very stressful!
Straight forward explanation of the role requirements and question as to whether the role interests you. You’re given a chance to ask any questions you have about the role and compensation.
