      Staff Writer Interview

      17 Jul 2014
      Anonymous employee
      Bethany Beach, DE
      Accepted offer

      Application

I interviewed at USA TODAY Co. (Bethany Beach, DE)

      Interview

Interviewed twice, once in OC, once in Bethany for job in Bethany Beach. Had to go to Salisbury for a drug test (mouth swab) and get a driving record completed at the DMV. The editor who hired me seemed friendly and nice, only after I was hired did I find out she was unexperienced with questionable news judgement.

      Staff Writer Interview

      Application

I applied through other source. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at USA TODAY Co. (Asbury Park, NJ) in Feb 2011

      Interview

I spoke one-on-one with two different human resources pros in an internal interview process that followed a stark reality: everyone's job had been dissolved and everyone was applying for new jobs. We each got a list of new jobs and were directed to apply for two. Clearly, not everyone was going to get a new job. The whole thing was an attempt to update, or modernize, the newsroom. Anyway, the interview process was somewhat weird because both interviewers were from Gannett sites out of town -- even out of state -- whereas the editors with whom I'd worked, in some cases for years, were not involved, at least not overtly. In the interview I was interested in the amount of time spent on my academic degrees, clearly a thing of the past, and not on current or future operations. My questions for the interviewers were geared toward the future, which was top of mind at that point.
