I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at UT Southwestern Medical Center (Dallas, TX) in Dec 2013
Interview
Called by secretary to meet with Primary Investigator, filled out HR paperwork, received call from PI that I am hired but have to go through red tape with HR, HR would not allow higher salary offer, phone call from HR to discuss non-negotiable salary request (UTSW is 20% BELOW Dallas, TX equivalent academic institutions/industry) as it is noted that one should be honored to work at such an institution. Discussed alternative options to ensure increase in salary at earliest time with PI. Then, I finally took the offer.
