      Train Crew Interview

      18 Apr 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Houston, TX
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Union Pacific (Houston, TX) in Apr 2018

      Interview

NOT EASY! Fast Paced, Cut and Dry - BE PREPARED TO RAPIDLY ANSWER 20-25 QUESTIONS in like 5 minutes Recruiters are friendly, interviewed by 1 Hr Manager and 1 Onsite Manager. Routine group session as describe in other reviews. Powerpoint presentation and brief personal introduction from recruiters. Followed by open Q/A. They emphasized their struggle with the hiring process, people drop out at various stages of interview and background process. It's made clear that they investigate everything, so even a minor fabrication of dates worked at a previous employer would revoke your application and you would be ineligible to apply for 6 months. So be honest. Out of 27 people, 1 walked out. Session started promptly at 8am and presentation ended at 10am, first 1v2 interview began at 1030am. Should be easy if you prepare. Don't elaborate on responses. ( in retrospect they'd be satisfied with a simple yes/no) Interview lasted about 10 minutes. All whilst the they're typing away at a mile a minute and asking/reading aloud what seemed to be computer randomized/generated questions (listed below). I do not think you have to have an impressive work history or experience to land the job. By the end they ask if you have any questions....Then dismiss you by telling you to check your email for updates. Good Luck!

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Describe your work experience How many times have you been late to work in the past 1yr? (ANSWER 0) How many days have you missed/called out from work in the past 1 yr? (ANSWER 0) How did you hear about the job? If referred, who referred you? > what do they do? > where do they work? Do you understand the nature of the job, travel, commitment, lifestyle change etc.? Do you have experience working outdoors? Do you have experience operating heavy machinery? ( Reads list of heavy Machinery while you answer yes/no) Have you ever had a conflict with a coworker/supervisor? If so, what was that like? what happened then? (recommend just answering no to this one) Do you understand what being furloughed means? If you were furloughed what would you do financially? >would you come back to work at UP? Have you ever been involuntarily terminated from a job? IF SO, why? > describe the nature of the termination. Do you have any family members employed by UP? How do you feel about safety? What would you do if you saw someone working unsafe? Why do you believe you are right for Train crew? / Why should we hire you? *important* Have you ever had to travel/ be away from home for work? if so, how long. Describe your work experience. Recommendations are to answer simple Yes or No, the actual interview is NOT an open ended Q&A. So when you answer yes to any of the above questions, have a FORMULATED response because they're recording your answers.

      Application

I interviewed at Union Pacific (San Antonio, TX)

      Interview

Recorded interview. 10-12 questions. All pretty comprehensive but over all prepared me for complicated questions in the future. I think they have employees that get furloughed so ultimately didn’t go through with the process.

It is a Unique process unlike any other I’ve experienced. Lots of background and tests. You’re answering prompts without a face to look at. I’ve never experienced anything like it. I hope this is now thirty words thirty words were minimum.
