Roughly five months from application to start date - be patient. Third time applying for exact same position.
Note* - Universal offers all positions internally first. I highly suggest starting in any job whatsoever and get your foot in the door. This will give you the ability to transfer. This does not apply for no-experience positions, such as attractions attendants, park services, ect.
I applied online and was called three months later. This was the same time UO decided to switch over to a new hiring website which (finally) contacts those applicants who are not of interest.
I went through a 3-stage interview process.
-Phone Interview (roughly 20 minutes) - This is the toughest interview by far. They are weeding out the mass, don’t be one of them. Get situated, know your stuff, be confident and personable. They are looking for positive attitudes that fit the company. Your voice must define who you are, BE POLITE. Recruiter TOLD* me that I was going to be “moved forward” and in a week, they would get back to me if management was interested. It took two weeks, so just keep motivated.
- Group Interview (about 30 minutes) – Also known as the “firing squad”, I sat with a group of leadership all holding my resume. I was quizzed/tested on nearly every aspect of the job, previous experience, personality questions and my portfolio examples. Nervousness is not a dismissal, but will show a lack of self-confidence. Be ready with additional portfolio work if asked. Also prepare for typical interview questions you can find online. Also given a quick tour of the facilities and introduced to some employees.
- One on One Interview (about 30 minutes) – Do you “fit” with the company? I was asked personal questions; why Universal, why this job, what I am pursuing in the future. This is also where I got additional questions on the exact role I would be responsible for and if it suited me individually.
Two weeks after the last interview I was contacted by the recruiter and told I was hired.
