Was called by a very nice HR lady based out of Arizona for a telephone interview. It went really well, she was professional, and referred me to the Regional Hiring Manager. However, he didn’t contact me for several weeks, and then all of sudden called and asked if I could drive down to Lisle, Illinois, in 2 days for an interview. I agreed and met him and another guy from HQ. The interview was awkward to say the least. The Hiring Manager was OK, but his boss was flat out strange. As in the prior review, both of them seemed to be on the defensive when I asked about the direction of the company and their recruitment style. They approach recruiting like a telemarketer, and that’s why UTI will fail. Typical for-profit, and I knew immediately this wasn’t a place I wanted to work. The questions they asked had nothing to do with students in mind, just how many “starts” you could get in a year. I pressed them, and they said they were getting “beat up” by local community colleges. I tried to explain why, as I’ve been involved in higher education for many years, but they had no clue. Then they stated why they had so much difficulty getting into high schools and having access to students. Terrible experience, and if you value higher education to any degree, this is not the place for you.
