I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Unum (Chattanooga, TN) in Oct 2024
Interview
Interviewed for SEII position, finished the first interview, went very well. The second interviewer cancelled 20 mins before the technical meeting, which I had taken the day off for. Rescheduled, and it went very well. Answered all questioned they asked me and in great depth. Comes back and says they don't think I'm a good fit for SEII, but wanted me to interview for a SEI position instead. Said they had nothing but positive things to say about me in my interview, but at this time would like me for the SEI instead. Recruiter set up a third meeting, I asked if this was going to be another technical interview. She explicitly said it will not be a technical interview since I've already done one. they have a good understanding of my experience and skills, this will be more of an informative meeting with the developers and learn about more the position. I join the meeting and the first thing the developer says is "Well since this is a technical interview lets go ahead and get started." I was completely blindsided and not prepared. The second dev said and I quote "I'm not really prepared for this and so I don't really know what to ask. Have you worked with SQL before?" This was for a backend role but dude asked me how I would problem this component in React. Luckily as a Fullstack dev I knew how to answer him.
Three days later I get an email saying they don't think I'm a good fit but they'll keep my resume on their desk. What an absolute waste of time and awful people. HR knows absolutely nothing about whats going on. I emailed HR afterwards and said that it very much a "technical interview" and she pretty much responded with "sorry I thought it wasn't. Best of luck."
These people don't know what they're looking for. They have no idea what to interview for. Unprepared. Awful.
