      Process Development Engineer Interview

      10 Aug 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Durham, NC
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Wolfspeed (Durham, NC) in Jun 2013

      Interview

      - First a phone screen with HR/recruiter - Phone call with hiring manager and one other senior staff. There were a few technical questions asked along with some brainteasers. - I was then flown out for an on-site interview. - Onsite interview consisted of 7 interviewers (45 min slots) + HR/Recruiter as well as a 30 minute presentation - The onsite interview was grueling and while some interviewers were friendly, others were downright hostile. I suspect this is part of their process to throw multiple personalities at you. - The Fermi questions are too much. I know Google is famous for those, but even in my interviews with Google and other similar companies, they don't ask as many as Cree did. - Lunch was great (Brazilian Churrascaria), but be careful not to overindulge (food coma). Also they kept grilling me with brainteasers at lunch. - The technical questions were moderately challenging, but nothing really stuck out to me. I found the Fermi questions and one particular interviewer who challenged my hobbies aggressively to be the most annoying. - Finally, being someone from California, they wanted to see I was interested in moving to NC. I asked for feedback after not receiving an offer and the enthusiasm to leave the Silicon Valley bubble was what resulted in the no-offer.

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Wolfspeed (Durham, NC) in Jul 2021

      Interview

Long but fair. Started with an HR interview where I was asked standard questions as well as a time where I had to solve a technical problem and the steps I took to do so, then a 2nd phone interview with a manager who was friendly and polite. I was asked a combination of questions from what I am looking for in a job culturally,, behavioral questions, and some very straightforward technical questions pertaining to LEDs and semiconductors. I am preparing for my 3rd interview now and was told to expect 4 total before an offer. All the interviews are still over the phone, none in person. For the 3rd interview I have been asked to prepare a 30 minute presentation on research or a project I have completed and to expect 30 minutes of follow up questions from 3-4 R&D managers.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Pertaining to an internship I'd done, I was asked to explain with some technical details a project I had listed on my resume.
