      Process Sustaining Engineer Interview

      10 Jul 2013
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer

      Application

      I interviewed at Wolfspeed

      Interview

Sent the basic application documentation (resume, transcript). Received an email reply the next day asking me to fill out a lengthy questionnaire (and later in the interview process I was told they didn't even read all the responses). Did a 30 minute phone interview, not too difficult but tested some basic semiconductor knowledge. Did a 15 minute presentation over skype to several engineers on research I had done. Was followed by about 25 minutes of questions. Was called back and asked if I could do an onsite interview. Was flown to North Carolina for a 7 hour onsite interview which consisted of giving a 30 minute presentation and then 7 45 minute 1-1 interviews.

      Process Sustaining Engineer Interview

      18 Nov 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Durham, NC
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Wolfspeed (Durham, NC) in Nov 2017

      Interview

The way Cree interviews candidates is the most excessively long and tedious of any company I've ever applied for. The process took nearly 3 full months from start to finish. First you must submit a questionnaire that takes a couple hours to fill out, but it is given to you with an expectation that you submit your answers within 3 days. I was traveling while this happened and it was inconvenient for me to do this, but after doing it then you have to do at least one phone screen and a skype interview with several managers. During this skype interview you are asked to present a 30 minute technical presentation and leave 30 more minutes for questions. But this whole presentation is completely unnecessary since they will ask you to present the SAME presentation during an onsite interview. The onsite interview process is exhausting and covers a full work day talking to 7-8 different people, many of whom are asking technical questions and riddles. Most of the people I talked to were friendly (with one exception), I'd also say everyone I met was good at communicating their roles and outlined the expectations of the opening...except they ended up interviewing for a different role than I what I thought I was there for. Initially I was selected for a first shift role, but then it was decided to interview me for a second shift role without being explicitly told so. As a result, I had to endure questions about my aptitude for second shift when I thought I was being interviewed for a first shift role... really made the whole interview feel like a waste of time because I wanted and expected to be interviewed for a first shift position.
