I applied online. I interviewed at YHA (England & Wales) in Aug 2025
Interview
The hiring manager was very friendly, greeting me at the door and chatting with me as he gave me a tour of the hostel and explained the role, as well as what my responsibilities would be. We then sat in the staff area for the more 'formal' interview questions set by the YHA
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
They were mostly standard questions, but there were a few 'curveballs' I remember: to talk about a time at work I'd failed to meet a target/deadline, and to make a recommendation (based on my experience of hotels) on what products or services the hostel could upsell.

Application
I applied in-person. I interviewed at YHA (England & Wales) (London, England) in Nov 2025
Interview
The interview was quite easy and engaging. The people who interviewed me were very cordial and accommodating; it was more like an informal chat than a job interview. I felt at ease and comfortable.
