I was asked back for a second interview, which required me to make a presentation, only to find out that the creative director had reviewed my portfolio an hour before the interview and decided he didn't like it. When I asked why, I was met with an answer of mumbling and contradictions to what was mentioned in the first interview. Why ask me back for a second interview if the CD didn't like my work in the first place?
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Incredibly basic interview questions such as "What are your strengths as an art director?" and "Tell us about a time that..."
One of the interviewers steamrolled the conversation, talking more about themselves and barely asking me any questions. Even so, I left thinking it was overall positive and went well. I sent a follow up/thank you email and was never reached out to afterwards. I wouldn't want to work for a team that doesn't have the decency to send a decline email, so I dodged a bullet I guess!
I applied through a staffing agency. I interviewed at Yamamoto (Chicago, IL) in Apr 2021
Interview
The interview was pleasant, pretty casual conversation no grilling questions for you. I got to meet most of the team and see how the company culture at Yamamoto in Chicago is.
