I recently participated in the interview process for the E-Surv Trainee Surveyor Programme after applying for the past three years. I was excited to make it to the final interview stage, as I had invested significant time and effort into improving my knowledge and skills, particularly in building pathology, to bridge the gap from my background in estate agency. Unfortunately, I was informed that I was unsuccessful at the final stage, with the reason given being that another candidate had provided stronger answers. While I understand that the hiring process is competitive, I found the lack of specific feedback concerning. Receiving constructive feedback could have provided valuable insights into areas where I can improve and allowed me to reflect on the decision more comprehensively. During the interview, I was also cut off before I had the chance to complete my answer to one of the questions, which left me feeling that I wasn’t fully able to present my qualifications and enthusiasm for the role. In a situation where I had worked hard to be considered for the position, this interruption left me questioning the fairness of the interview process. Given my past experiences with this company and the negative feedback I had heard beforehand, I had hoped for a more positive and informative outcome this time. Unfortunately, this latest experience has led me to conclude that this particular role within the company may not be the best fit for me. While I appreciate the opportunity, I will not be reapplying for the position in the future. I believe that interviews should be a fair and transparent process, where candidates are given adequate time to express themselves, and feedback is provided to help them grow. I feel that this experience has not aligned with those expectations. I hope the company continues to refine its interview process and provides more constructive feedback in future interactions.

Initial assessment / screening took place over the telephone with 3 building pathology questions via a call centre agent. This was not explained to me prior to the call, worded more so as a ‘discussion’ and therefore caught me a little off guard (first surveying related job) Upon passing the screening I was invited to an assessment day and interview which involved technical and knowledge tests, numeracy, grammar and attention to details tests. Assessment day lasted around 3-4 hours.
