      Camera Operator Interview

      7 Nov 2024
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at iSiteTV

      Interview

The interview was the most insane interview experience I have ever had. Evident from the start you are speaking to people from other departments who have not the faintest idea about your job. Guy involved in the latter stages who knows nothing but has to be there as some sort of legislative check/yes-man for the owners. Company owner took on the final interview which resembled a thinly-veiled “gotcha” psycho-analyst test. Like some budget Jon Ronson parody, it’s literally like something out of The Office but not nearly as funny when you are the one sat in the boardroom. Asked to do drawings on an A1 flip chart, truly bizarre and irrelevant. When I attempted to return the conversation back to a more traditional interview I was told “but what does your experience actually mean?”, which at first sounded like a normal question. I explained how my experience in TV could be transferable to a small company like this and how it could benefit them and how I could benefit from working in that environment. The response was “I don’t care about your experience, I can teach experience”. This comment was made by the company owner. I should have walked out the door right then. Interview was full of promises that never came to fruition, I asked if they offered accredited training on camera equipment and I got a firm yes. This didn’t ever happen and hasn’t happened before my time or since. Someone was sitting in the interview for his first time and found the whole thing awkward and difficult. Everyone at the company that I spoke to in my time there sees how unproductive and fake these interviews are but the environment doesn’t exist to welcome feedback and improve the situation. There will be potential good staff lost to this process. Saying that, it’s easy to manipulate and get through if you go into it with understanding of who you are dealing with.
