Potential Tutor Going Through Hiring Process - First Review On Internet About This Government Funded Startup? Interview

      3 Jul 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Houston, TX
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at mySTEMTutor (Houston, TX) in Jul 2015

      Interview

The process started with a background check, taking a math assessment test, with 5 of the more difficult calculus questions they could throw out, plus creating a profile. Couldn't complete my profile because they wanted me to take a profile photo with the company shirt, which they said they would send after the interview process. *Red Flag. Once I completed that, the interview was scheduled a week in advanced. The interviewer never showed up or indicated that she had a problem preventing her from showing up until after scheduled interview time frame had begun. When she sent the interview time frame she never indicated central time/pacific/etc. Offered to begin interview at 12:43 pm central time even though I was ready at 10:00 am central time, then tried to say they were operating by pacific time. I sent a Skype call message, called the Skype handle, and even offered to wait 20 minutes after beginning of the scheduled interview. Unapologetic and unsympathetic. Finally, she told me the time the set out was an open time frame so they would contact me when they were available. So, I guess they expect us to be on standby for 2 hours at a computer? I tried numerous times to contact them to address concerns I had about the interview but was redirected to a email contact that never responded within the 24 hours they promised. She was very nasty and blunt in the times she did communicate. Telling me her problems, like she has hundreds of applicants and wanted to address all their concerns, and interviews were overlapping, etc. Wouldn't have been a problem for me if I had been notified earlier. Seeing as though this is a new government funded "organization" you'd think they'd be a little more prepared before going live. They are trying to expand, pushing STEM -Science, Tech, Math, Science in an attempt to prepare the country for global competition yet they want to act like this towards people who want to help? Anyway, that's all in the past. I thought I'd share that since you can't find much information about this new startup.
