We are looking for the successful candidate to demonstrate expertise in building an efficient team, implementing new procedures and bringing innovative ideas to the business. The candidate will be responsible for ensuring rigorous quality standards in products and production, and will be working with, supporting, developing and coordinating people, products, and equipment to achieve an efficient and profitable operation, whilst promoting food quality, food safety and health & safety.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Manage and evaluate entire production process and oversee the day-to- day bakery operations.
- Ensure a smooth, effective, efficient, and profitable business is achieved through the coordination of people, products, and equipment.
- Achieve production targets and schedules, while ensuring product standards meet and exceed customer expectations.
- Plan, coordinate and control manufacturing processes and manage production lines, whilst optimising cost and achieving planned output.
- Ensure that goods are produced efficiently and that supply quantities are to specification and meet all cost KPI’s.
- Improve business and operations effectiveness and performance by implementing strategies and procedures for continuous improvements in safety, product quality, food safety, and productivity, quality of work life, inventory management, customer service, and operational costs.
- Create and revise systems and procedures by analysing operating practices, record-keeping systems, forms of control, and budgetary and personnel requirements, implementing change.
- Through excellent leadership and a culture of continuous improvement, the Production Manager will lead the operational strategic direction and execution of uninterrupted product supply to our customers while delivering business improvements, supporting innovation and meeting all compliance requirements.
- Oversee equipment and devices continuously in order to raise the productive capacity, and develop advanced plans to increase production according to quality standards.
- Promote a culture of inclusion and diversity, ensuring all team members are engaged and developed.
- Develop a team of bakers, operatives & packers that can produce consistently high-quality products and work to develop your team to the best of their ability, identify the need for and arrange trainings.
- Lead by example, promote company policies and procedures.
- Manage performance of team members (reviews) and chair meetings (disciplinaries etc.).
- Hold shift briefings and handovers, giving accurate verbal and written communication to all members of staff.
- Work closely with other departments like Dispatch, Technical, Engineering, HR, Hygiene, NPD etc.
- Ensure GMPs and Safety standards are maintained at all times, take action and/or follow-up when deficiencies are noted.
- Liaise with Procurement to ensure inventory levels are sufficient.
- Monitor and address losses in operational performance, material waste and other negative factors using appropriate manufacturing tools and methodologies.
- 2 direct reports and reports directly to the Operations Manager
- Full site accountability/responsibility during out of office hours
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- 5+ years’ management experience within food production, ideally in bakery environment.
- University degree or equivalent preferred, ideally in Business Management, Engineering or Food Science.
- Knowledge of the science of bread making, experience with ovens, mixing doughs.
- Strong background in HACCP, safety GMP’s.
- A hands-on Production Manager willing and able to take ownership of the production area and to be accountable.
- Driven by achieving high standards of production performance, quality, and cost control.

Pay: £35,000.00-£40,000.00 per year
