Role Overview
As a Senior Software Developer (Full Stack), you will play a key role within a blended agile squad, working on large-scale digital services in an API-first, cloud-native environment.
You will design, build, and support secure, scalable applications using Java (Spring Boot) and React, contributing to the migration away from legacy systems while aligning with GDS Service Standards.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and support full-stack applications using Java Spring Boot and React
Collaborate with Product Owners, Delivery Managers, Architects, and Analysts in agile squads
Integrate APIs and support legacy system modernisation
Ensure high availability, reliability, and performance of services
Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, applying TDD/BDD practices
Implement Secure by Design principles and address OWASP Top 10 risks
Promote observability, monitoring, and incident management best practices
Essential Skills & Experience
Strong experience as a Full Stack Developer in large-scale or public sector environments
Expertise in Java, Spring Boot, and building API-first microservices
Proficiency in React.js and accessible UI development (WCAG 2.2)
Experience with AWS cloud services (API Gateway, Lambda, S3, DynamoDB)
Solid understanding of Agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban)
Experience across the full digital delivery lifecycle (Discovery Live)
Knowledge of DevOps practices, Terraform, Docker/Kubernetes
Eligibility for SC Clearance - you do not need to hold clearance currently; we will support you through the process on appointment
Desirable Skills
Experience with Node.js (Serverless) or Ruby on Rails (desirable)
Exposure to legacy modernisation (mainframe, AIX, Oracle)
Integration experience with GOV.UK services (Notify, Pay, One Login)
