Overview
Mid–Senior WordPress Developer StudioHub · Hybrid (Bridlington, East Yorkshire) · Full-time
StudioHub builds the eCommerce stores and competition platforms behind some of the UK's fastest growing consumer brands.
Our work sits at the intersection of bespoke product development and high-volume marketing infrastructure, the kind of sites that need to stay quick, stable, and clever under real load. We're growing the development team and looking for a WordPress developer who wants to own meaningful problems end to end.
About the role
You'll join a close-knit team building and maintaining the platforms our clients rely on every day. The work is genuinely varied: one week you might be building a new plugin from scratch, the next you're fine-tuning performance on a high-traffic site, shaping a smoother checkout journey, or refining the architecture behind one of our instant win mechanics. Some of it is greenfield, some is making good work even better.
There's a healthy mix of project work and day-to-day requests, and we care about how that flow runs. You'll have a real say in how we plan, prioritise, and move work through, not just what gets built.
This is a hybrid role. We're shortly moving into a purpose-designed town centre office built around how we actually want to work: collaborative space, room to focus, and a culture that takes morale and growth seriously. You'll be in with the team for the parts of the week that benefit from being together, with the flexibility to work from home the rest.
What you'll be working on
Building and extending custom WordPress plugins that sit at the core of our platformPerformance and optimisation work across client sites: query tuning, caching strategy, front-end load times, the lotDeveloping scalable functionality for sites that handle significant traffic spikes during prize draws and competition closesDebugging and resolving issues that come through our ticket flow, alongside larger project workImproving the architecture and reliability of existing sitesWorking closely with front-end developers, designers, and project managers to take features from concept through wireframe to launchIntegrating third-party services: payment providers, verification tools, marketing platformsHelping shape how we build: tooling, conventions, deployment, the boring-but-important stuff that compounds
What we're looking for
Solid WordPress experience, particularly building custom plugins from scratch rather than wiring existing ones togetherComfort with the parts of WordPress that get less attention: WP-Cron, transients, object caching, query optimisation, the REST APIWooCommerce experience on sites that have to perform under loadA track record of performance and optimisation work, not just feature buildingStrong PHP and JavaScript fundamentals, and a working knowledge of MySQL beyond the basicsA Git-based workflow you're fluent in: branches, reviews, sensible commitsCare about how things actually run in production: performance, reliability, the user's experience on a slow connectionThe ability to work independently on a problem and also to collaborate well: explain your thinking, push back where it matters, and write things down so the next person isn't lost
