An Ophthalmology Consultant specialising in cornea is responsible for diagnosing and treating complex corneal and anterior segment conditions, performing specialised surgeries including corneal transplants and cataract procedures, and managing outpatient and surgical services. The role also includes leading the ARC service, supporting urgent and emergency eye care pathways, supervising junior staff, and contributing to teaching, research, and service development within the department.
Main duties would include diagnosing and managing complex corneal and anterior segment conditions, performing specialised surgical procedures, leading and developing the ARC service, managing outpatient clinics and theatre sessions, supporting urgent and emergency eye care services, supervising and teaching junior medical staff, participating in clinical governance and audit activities, and contributing to service improvement, research, and multidisciplinary team working within the Royal Eye Unit.
