We’re looking for a Payroll Administrator to join #TeamCB - someone who enjoys being the person clients trust, teammates rely on, and the business grows around. You’ll take ownership of a varied client portfolio, and play an active role in shaping how we deliver great work as we continue to grow.
Location: Devizes, minimum of 3 days per week
Hours: 18 - 37.5 hours per week
Salary: £25,000 - £28,000

Purpose of the Role
To deliver accurate, compliant and timely payroll processing for a portfolio of clients, ensuring employees are paid correctly and all statutory reporting requirements are met. The role supports clients with day-to-day payroll administration, payroll queries and year-end tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Process weekly, fortnightly and monthly payrolls for a portfolio of clients, ensuring accuracy and meeting agreed deadlines.
- Collect, validate and input payroll data including starters, leavers, salary changes, timesheets, overtime, bonuses, commissions, and statutory absence.
- Run payroll calculations and checks, including PAYE, National Insurance, pension deductions, student loan/postgraduate loan deductions, and attachments of earnings where applicable.
- Submit Real Time Information (RTI) to HMRC on time (e.g., Full Payment Submissions and Employer Payment Submissions) and support correction submissions where required.
- Administer workplace pensions and auto-enrolment tasks, including assessments, opt-ins/opt-outs, contribution processing, pension file submissions (or integrations), declarations of compliance and client communications.
- Prepare and issue payroll outputs such as payslips and payroll reports.
- Support payroll year-end activities, including final submissions and preparing employee documentation (e.g., P60s), and assist with offboarding documentation (e.g. P45s) as needed.
- Manage CIS compliance, including subcontractor verification, monthly CIS returns, and accurate submissions in line with statutory deadlines.
- Support the payrolling of benefits, ensuring correct tax treatment and alignment with HMRC guidance.
- Respond to client and employee CIS and payroll queries promptly and professionally, escalating complex matters where appropriate.
- Maintain accurate payroll and CIS records and documentation in line with internal controls, confidentiality requirements and relevant legislation.
- Support client onboarding, and contribute to continuous improvement of payroll processes.
Required skills
- Previous payroll administration experience (in-house or bureau/practice), with an understanding of core UK payroll concepts (PAYE, NIC and RTI deadlines).
- Confident using payroll software - strong experience in BrightPay Payroll preferred, plus exposure to Xero Payroll and Sage Payroll or other platforms.
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to checking figures and spotting inconsistencies.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritise work across several clients/pay schedules.
- Clear, professional communication skills (written and verbal) and a helpful customer-service mindset.
- Good working knowledge of Excel/spreadsheets (e.g. sorting, filters, basic formulas).
- Willingness to learn new payroll systems, stay up to date with payroll legislation changes, and follow documented processes.
- CIPP qualification (or equivalent) desirable, but not essential.
