Everyone loves to watch videos these days, and that's just fine with Sigma Designs, which designs semiconductors for use in home entertainment systems. The company's system-on-chip (SoC) devices go into set-top boxes and gateways for Internet protocol TVs, HDTVs, Blu-ray players, media communication devices, and professional audio/visual devices. Sigma Designs, which outsources the fabrication of its chips to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing, also offers services such as custom development of MPEG decoding chips and software support. Customers have included Cisco and Gemtek. More than three-quarters of Sigma Designs' sales comes from customers in the Asia/Pacific region.
