The Wates Group was established in 1897 and is one of the leading privately-owned construction, development and property services companies in the UK. We employ almost 6,000 people, working with a range of clients and partners from across the public and private sectors.

Wates was founded by Edward Wates in 1897. He started the company with the aim of creating better homes for people and transforming their lives by building communities in which he worked.
Family values are at the heart of what we do. Whether we’re teaching the next generation about green technologies or providing opportunities for those furthest from the workforce, we partner with a wide range of public and private sector customers and partners to reimagine flourishing places and communities where people can thrive.
Now in our fourth generation of family ownership, we are committed to the long-term future of the built environment. The Wates Family is focused on the continued sustainability of the company and on handing over to the next generation an even stronger, more sustainable business.
