Pros

Certifications that can be used in other fields, the individuals we support are great, sometimes staff are friendly

Cons

Management isn’t always around (mainly managers as they always seem to be taking off, taking sick days etc) but the company makes it hard for employees to take vacation or sick days themselves. Full time employees are restricted on personal days because management never wants to find fill ins for them. Some staff are extremely lazy and get away with it and usually the staff who do everything and keep the house running are scrutinized the most. The job barely pays above minimum wage for entry level position even though we get AMAP, SCIP, and CPR certified and are called “professionals.” Also we get paid the same as someone who comes on the job the next day even if we’ve been working there for 2, 3, 5+ years. High ups say we’re getting paid more than other agencies which is not true, and they’ve cut our bonus every year for a Christmas party that not every staff is invited to, to pay for 50 TVs at a party of 500 guests. Staff aren’t allowed to bring outside food that the residents can’t have in their diet because it makes them feel bad, but then the staff also aren’t allowed to eat something from the fridge in the house. So if I need to bring something a resident would be able to eat, why can’t I also grab a snack when I’m working so hard? Also, we never get a break and we work 8 hour days. There are no scheduled breaks because management says we get “downtime” but then if we sit down on the couch for five minutes to rest we’re told we can’t do that and need to look busy.

Pros

Being able to work with the individuals on caseload is challenging and rewarding work. Salaries are competitive.

Cons

Horrible Management. Unfriendly, condescending, barely available Supervision. Questions are not permitted without dealing with aggressive and unprofessional reaction from Supervision. Often left without guidance on serious issues.
