Chaotic, questionable management practices
Pros
- Reasonable salary - Work life balance - Good research infrastructure - Good options for further education - Access to a vast network in academia and industry
Cons
- Bullying, mobbing, abuse of power, gaslighting, manipulation and "my way or highway" style of management is the norm and daily occurence in some of the departments. Everyone knows about it, but in this weird masochistic way it is not only not prevented but sometimes even encouraged. - Again, depending on the department, high turnover, rates of burnout and frustration. - Very poor communication between top and middle management but also between the research group themselves. - No unified company culture, every department (sometimes I have the feeling even every person) is out for themselves.
