Pros

Little to nothing now.

Cons

Jim Broering managed to run this company into the ground with a series of expensive long term commitments based on short term circumstances. His arrogance burned countless bridges and now AcuSport is crumbling. Bill Fraim, a great man, trusted his family's company, which was once the very best in the industry, to a collection of fools. The best people have either been laid off or quit. Now the company is up for sale and can't get needed merchandise from manufacturers. Meanwhile there are still a bunch of people on the sales force struggling to make ends meet due to their pathetic decisions. To make it worse, the sales force tried to tell them. It was called head trash. Way to screw things up guys.

Pros

There were a lot of reasons to work for this company a year ago. The people, the atmosphere, job growth opportunities, and having the opportunity from your supervisor to try new things.

Cons

Everything changed in May of 2017 when the layoffs began. Many key people were let go causing a lot of stress for everyone else, and it continued to get worse. Others slowly left which piled the work on everyone else. Corporate couldn't make up their minds of current and future investments which led to another layoff in September. What remains now is a broken company destined to be sold off.

Pros

There is a positive work environment with generally decent people. Pay is very generous, arguably higher than it should be given the business climate. If you are a firearms enthusiast, you'll enjoy the discount on products. Bellefontaine is a great town. Benefits are great. Automating the warehouse is a smart move that should be continued.

Cons

This is a middleman company at a time when middlemen are dying out. They are stuck in between a rock and a hard place. On the one hand, Amazon and other online retailers can offer firearms without the added cost of staffing an expensive new office in Bellefontaine. On the other side, Acusport is pressured by big box retailers who either deal with a different distributor or directly with the manufacturer. The company prides itself on the close relationship it has with independent retailers. There are shirts and cups and mugs that describe their faith in large independent retailers. I won't go into the inner workings of the company. I want to comply with Glassdoor's policy of confidential information. However, applicants should know that the company is not in great financial shape due to the above mentioned factors. There are rumors (hopefully just rumors!) from senior managers about the company's insolvency. During my short time with Acusport there were several senior positions that were eliminated. You can argue that they are restructuring, but there is an atmosphere of fear and insecurity that anyone can be next. If fear and insecurity is your intended method, reconsider your policy of fear based motivation.
