Working at a charter school is rewarding because while there is a set curriculum teacher have more autonomy to work with students in the ways that they believe best fit sutdents needs. All state accountability with more weight due to the ablity of the Michigan Department of Ed is a lot more stringent so you must work hard with your students.
Cons
Pay is lower than traditional education but it is becoming more equal
ATA tries very hard to meet the needs of its students. When I was there, teachers were given support and generally respected. Overall, it was a good place to work.
Cons
Longer hours than some schools (7:30-3:30) and, in general, a longer school year. Pay is not as good as in a district school (e.g., Detroit Public Schools.)
