Retail managers, for the most part, cannot manage. They struggle to make decisions and struggle to support staff when support is needed. Of course, they're quick to criticise and slow (or forget) to appreciate your efforts.
Some managers do not deserve to be in the position. The recruitment policy is laughable.
Not enough consideration into staff physical and mental health wellbeing. Shiftwork is demanding and the management do not factor that.
The staff recruitment policy has become worse. New staff arrive and are not trained properly and think they can run the show however they see fit. Then there are the staff who've worked there for years who do not work. They cosy up to management for chats on the shop floor or else they simply go awol for their shifts and are not called up on it. Yet, the hard working employee who steps aside for a minute will undoubtedly be called up on it.
The company often win awards and no shop floor staff are invited to these gatherings. It's always the office staff who take the credit and the petty sales assistants are ignored. Goes to show how much they care about us. They want us to sell more but fail to reward our efforts.
There is a nepotistic element that will never be removed. Career opportunities are only offered to the sycophants and not the deserved.
