I worked at Aesop full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Beautiful store space and good products. Could be an amazing company if head office politics didn’t taint everything.

    Cons

If you work in any of the retail spaces expect to feel continuously undervalued, unheard and nervous. The internal culture has shifted since its origins with the head office staff implementing a discriminatory hierarchy headed by the arrogant UK manager. During my time with the company I was paid thousands less for the same role as male or Australian colleagues who had identical positions and responsibilities. HR are...

I worked at Aesop full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Given lots of products, great staff, great stores

    Cons

No communication, lots of promises never actually fulfilled

    Advice to Management

Don’t promise things to staff then not deliver, they pride themselves on giving staff opportunities to grow within company but then don’t help when said staff decide to move, I think it’s a bad way to treat staff who have worked very hard and want to continue working with Aesop but not help was given by the regional even tho this being promised

I have been working at Aesop full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Great products and staff discount

    Cons

    - Terrible management (specially from the east district manager) - High pressure and no benefits for the hard work - Employees are treated as numbers, keeping the humanity part forgotten - No promoting expectations if you are not a friend of high managers - Fake friendly environment in all the staff meeting, reality Office does not care what's happening in the stores. - Terrible salary compared with Australia and...

I worked at Aesop for more than a year

    Pros

Beautiful and good quality products, pleasant working spaces (stores), intelligent and interesting colleagues, inspiring environment, pay is OK for a retail position, complimentary products and staff discount, flexible working hours.

    Cons

The internal culture of the company does not seem to align with the image of the brand. There is no sense of solidarity or humanity within the company. The business became too big and many managers could not keep up with the speed of growth therefore are under lots of stress that they take out on employees. These managers would need development, especially in people's skills, leadership and problem-solving. There is...

    Advice to Management

Please ask employees for feedback and utilise it. Offer developmental training for managers in empathy, social and people skills, stress-management and problem solving. Reward reliable and loyal employees. Go into the stores and observe how they are run. The shorts visits are not enough to experience REALITY. Many managers change their behaviour when Head Office sees them. Apply more humanity and empathy, encourage employees...

I worked at Aesop full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Discount and product allowance. Beautiful stores to work in.

    Cons

I have never been so mistreated in my life by a manager or a sub manager as I have been at Aesop. Aesop's philosophy might seem intelligent and open from a customer experience point of view but as soon as you step foot in this company it will eat up your soul. Dont be fooled by the vacancy ads on the store windows: "Seeking accomplished individuals". Aesop wants educated workers to then use them for shelf cleaning....
