Pros

* Amazing work-life balance, great for people with family * Top management mostly know what they are doing * Lots of GPU resources available, although nowhere as much as the big tech

Cons

* There are two groups of people who are "anti-diversity". One group probably got burnt by incompetent "diversity" hires another group are afraid of "diversity" hires taking their jobs. * Constant infighting among top management leading to lots of silos * A few people in middle-leadership positions are infuriating to deal with * No real drive to do good research or push the frontiers of science. The focus is on hiding behind "European Sovereignty" instead of making world class products. * Compensation isn't great but the workload isn't that high either.

Pros

If you expect to join a startup with innovative culture, tackling challenging problems, Aleph Alpha will not disappoint. I joined as a Software Engineer and quickly found that I can take on as much responsibility as I can handle (not untypical for a stratup, I'd say). It is very helpful that C level management trusts its employees, and why they might hold strong opinions on things, they do not fall into the trap of Micromanaging people. Having worked at other startups before I can say a major plus for AA is that engineering works in a way which is sustainable long term. Adopting best practices like Continious delivery, Test Driven Development and Pair Programming. Keeping cost of delay in mind when taking shortcuts.

Cons

* Some topics do not have teams who can own them completly. If you hit a topic requiring collaboration between teams, you'll often find yourself waiting on feedback / input from another team. Tempting you to pick up another ball to juggle in the meantime. This can lead to high coginitve load. * The freedom and trust you get also comes with a lot of responsibility, which does weigh heavy at times.

Pros

The people. Smart employees, hungry to build something meaningful, best in Germany. Work/life balance.

Cons

Leadership and Strategy: Leadership is disconnected and fails to provide clear direction. The executive team frequently shift the overall company strategy every few months, which causes constant pivots in priorities and leaves employees without stability or long-term goals. Product Issues: The company has no coherent product strategy. New launches often disappear without traction, and existing products are underperforming or unusable. The current company wide focus on the upcoming single solution is misguided, especially in an already saturated market. Sales and Customers: The company struggles to sell because there is no clear, marketable product or pricing strategy, leaving sales teams trying to sell anything they can, which creates misalignment with customers and damages trust. While leadership sometimes even declines potential customers. Organization and Communication: There is almost lack of communication or alignment between product, research, and customer teams. Departments operate in silos, working on projects customers don’t want or need. Culture and Morale: Employee morale is extremely low. Many talented people are leaving from all departments, C-level and executives have resigned, and those who remain feel lost, stressed, and unsupported. Reputation and Missed Opportunities: Despite having funding, strong backing, highly talented employees, and government/media support, the company has squandered its position. Its reputation is now damaged in the market. Growth Without Foundation: Headcount ballooned dramatically in a year, without clear products, clients, or revenue to sustain it. This growth has only increased dysfunction. Acquisitions: Leadership has acquired companies and products only to shut them down, with little strategic value. Talent and Potential: Employees are motivated and want to contribute, grow, and help the company succeed, but leadership has squandered this talent through poor direction and mismanagement.
