Pros

Supportive and kind fellow co-workers.

Cons

My prior review was removed, which mirrors the culture here: silence criticism instead of fixing problems. In my experience, American Clean Power is a toxic workplace led by executives who protect themselves at employees’ expense. Compensation is low, expectations are extreme, and the “hybrid” schedule really means being on call all the time. Support for new mothers is virtually nonexistent. I witnessed women return from maternity leave only to be pushed out shortly after. Reports of sexual harassment were not meaningfully addressed—leadership’s response was to warn young women to avoid a known repeat offender rather than hold him accountable. Not a safe or supportive environment. Especially not for women or parents. Extreme caution advised.

Great People, Great Work, But the Execs…

Pros

Great mission-driven people, solid policy & political impact, fantastic benefits and an HR team who cares.

Cons

The executive team taught me how NOT to be a leader. Their job is stressful, and perhaps that is why they do not live the cultural values determined by the rest of the organization. Or perhaps it’s the narcissism that prevents them from leading with respect, self-reflection, and empathy. They can be petty and hold grudges against employees, which I know firsthand. One experienced employee publicly stated “this is the most top-down organization I’ve ever worked at.” History of cultural issues that execs pay lip service to annually, but dismiss with their actions. Poor executive management can trickle down, though VPs get the brunt of it. This can lead to a mix of VP effectiveness across the org.
