Pros

On the upside, the company generally works on interesting projects targeting the latest consoles. The company is based in Bordeaux which is a nice place. Overtime was paid or compensated with holidays.

Cons

The main issue with the company is that very old employees are too wary of newcomers and rarely if ever the new people are given the chance to take more important roles or responsibility. Once you get a role in the company you are expected to do your thing over and over again and nobody will ever wonder if you are really happy and with virtually zero chances of facing new challenges. All the interested stuff is done by the old employees and the most you can expect is to fix their bugs. Communication with other Leads is probably the worst I've ever experienced working professionally. Not sure if there is a language barrier or it's just plain French management philosophy. It's really difficult to work with the old employees that have been in the company for so long at the company, they rarely accept any suggestion and are not happy with taking risks to improve the very old codebase they have.

Pros

Dedicated people with one goal: do a good job for the client. Fantastic artist. The HR team is wonderful. The location of the studio is ideal and Bordeaux is a beautiful city. I liked the "mercenary" feeling of the teams: we have a job to do and we have to do it well. Overtime is paid. Deals with big studios, has earned through hard work and patience respect from bigger companies.

Cons

The management is not good—they have been managing the studio the same way for 10+ years. Production relies too much on gut feelings and direct orders. No planning, no scrums, no production plan. Just good ol' "do that and we'll see." They do not listen unless you're friend with them. Some milestones are crushing even if paid. A lot of sexist and other slurs and comments… you know… just for fun. "Locker room talk" and all that.

Hi there! We feel sorry to hear your experience @Asobo and we thank you for this honest message. It's not always easy to lead a company. Managers here are progs and artists in the first place but they are all committed to the same objectives: create great games and be happy to do it ; even though the production process can be sometimes full of dangers ^^. Everybody here tries to improve everyday and your comments are helpful anyway. We wish you all the best in your future career. The A-Team

Pros

If you are looking for a medium size studio with many passionate people on cool projects, that's a safe place to land. The projects are really interesting (even Flight Simulator). They are on a very good trend especially after the release of A Plague Tale: Innocence Good vibe and many good people. HR people and many managers are kind. The QA team is really great. They have a pretty good work/life balance most of the time. (Sometime you can have crunch time depending on your role though, but they pay overtime) Top management is pretty transparent and close to the studio people.

Cons

Some production can be somehow chaotic but they were doing some progress when I left. Sometime some people can be really difficult to handle and bring a toxic culture, but they are few people. Some big decisions on the projects can be difficult for the teams sometime (deadlines, cancellation, last-minute modifications …). It can be though to progress in the hierarchy considering that the key positions are taken by the co-owners of the company most of the time. Salaries (like many french video game companies) were very low when I left.
