Unprofessional and unethical company

Pros

It's in a really cool town with a lot of interesting people.

Cons

The management is horrible! The treat their staff with very little respect. The people in management aren't actually the most qualified to be there. It is more-or-less a popularity contest with the Publisher. If you do and say what he wants to hear, he likes you at the time. Otherwise, you might want to look into something else. The atmosphere is drab and dull. Everyone complains and is very unprofessional. Forget about having any creative say so. The treat the entry level and interns like slaves and their justification is that "they should feel lucky to work here with us." The pay is absolutely insulting. They have a terrible reputation in the town and with the University and it shows with their reducing circulation and sales. If you have a question about something, you have to literally hound your superior to get it answered or resolved...unless it's taking money out of her pocket of course. The overall culture of the company is unethical and embarrassing. All journalism ethics are thrown out of the window because management doesn't know them and honestly doesn't care. The VP of one division has no clue about what her department actually does or how it should be operating.

Pros

There are good people at this newspaper who do their job well.

Cons

Morris Communications has repeatedly slashed the staff to the bone. Loss of resources and desperate attempts to keep readers has led to journalism becoming less and less of a focus.
