What a mess!

Pros

Avidbots once had a good work culture and employees were motivated to develop cool robots.

Cons

Avidbots shifted gears a while back. It is a robot-selling company now. This robotics startup has no plans to improve the autonomy or software of the product and they are not interested in investing in engineering. Engineering is just one of the many teams now and all they do is tweak code a little bit to make some small adjustments. If anyone proposes to improve the stack, the higher management will find minute issues to shut them down. The VPs of Sales and Marketing have hijacked the company where they go about claiming that their product is like an indoor Tesla. And when the clients realize that these claims are not true, they blame it on Engineering for a lousy product and move on. In the last year, at least three team leads have quit. The employees left are either planning to leave soon or are too incompetent to find another job. I am not sure how long this company will survive.

Pros

There are already many pros mentioned in disingenuous reviews requested by HR to promote the company.

Cons

Don't waste your time at Avidbots. You won't learn there anything. They took a huge toll on my mental health, from which I am still recovering with a help of a professional therapist. The trauma is abysmal. This is a typical company where employees are expected to be reactive and compliant. If you have a perspective different from the management, you are in real trouble. They scare you of firing when you disagree: not the first time for them. Job security is very low. Harassment, discrimination, and toxic environment are backed up by management. Certain members of the management are highly chauvinistic and misogynistic. Don't even try to discuss it with HR. They would rather discuss your breast in a private closed room. Yes, that's what happened to me for real. Never trust them. Once you leave Avidbots, the CTO will silently defame you behind your back interfering with potential contracts. Beware, these guys don't hesitate to practice testing of their safety "solutions" without a client's consent. Even during the pandemic wearing a mask was only a recommendation that wasn't followed inside the building.

Avidbots Response

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We appreciate your perspective. It is important for us to hear what we are doing well and what we need to improve upon. We are continuously learning and committed to improving. We are not used to receiving 1 star reviews so we are not happy that your experience working here has been unsatisfactory and means that in your case, we have failed somewhere along the way. I want you to know I take ownership for ways we let you down - we can always improve and feedback like this drives us to do so. Firstly, I am sorry to learn about your current mental health and state. I am glad you are seeking professional help and receiving the therapy needed to regain your well being. We take mental health and overall wellbeing seriously and have many programs, benefits, and resources accessible to all Avidbotters for their wellness (internal and external supports in place). Furthermore, we take all aspects of health and safety seriously and follow, monitor, and enforce all safety and wellness protocols, including those developed for the COVID-19 pandemic response to ensure the safety of our employees when they come to our offices. As much as we appreciate the feedback overall and have been reflecting on it, we cannot agree with the statement and review of "sex-crazed management" nor what is being implied by it. We have a great culture. We highly value diversity and inclusion and work hard to address any concerns that can arise when a company is growing and scaling quickly like we are. We recognize there are going to be growing pains, although we remain committed to always treating each other with respect, integrity, and professionalism. Our leadership team values and acts on feedback we receive from many channels, one being the Great Places to Work employee engagement survey. We encourage our team to share their feedback and concerns not only via the surveys but through the many opportunities we create for such feedback loops as well as speaking with their leaders and our People team. We are sorry you did not feel comfortable bringing your feedback to us during your time at Avidbots. We have let you down and are sorry that we were not able to improve or resolve the concerns you have raised here. As the new VP, People & Culture I would be very open to having a discussion if you would like to reach out to me directly. Best Regards, Andrea Morrison
