Pros

Cheap car hire. People you work with.

Cons

Constant senior management changes pulling in opposite directions. US Avis took over Avis EMEA in 2001/12. All technical workforce now outsourced to India & Hungary. Skeleton crew left in the Most country HQ's. Practically nobody technical left in Europe. Avis used to trade on it's higher level of customer service, now it's purely on price. Redundancy used to be an annual thing, but the terms were good. Since the US took over it's more than annual and the terms get worse each time. General consensus is that it will soon be statutory redundancy terms. What more can you expect from owners to which you are now just another resource, not a person.

Pros

There are none. What would you expect of a car rental company? If you need car - ZIPCAR is the answer.

Cons

This company cannot be trusted in any aspect. Not even what is written on paper is adhered too. The senior management is absolutely untrustworthy and to a large extent incompetent. HR leadership may be seen often on a personal vendetta against anyone who does not adhere to their view of the world, just dragging out payments to entitled parties in court to the maximum, independent of merit and in total disregard of shareholders. Possibly discriminating against pregnant women.

Pros

- there is a clear effort to manage the career of talents and to retain them in the long term - the business is very interesting, especially if you like travelling and you have a car at every airport - the company is constantly investing in creating the future - the advantages of a global company that hasn't completely lost the touch of a SME - Great culture!

Cons

- HQs are badly located except for Paris: they tend to be quite far from the center albeit they are all next to major capitals in Europe. - Retribution is in my opinion generally low compared to the market. This is partly compensated by the opportunities to grow and the very solid experience that you can develop and sell upon exit. Nonetheless retribution does not compensate for the lifestyle impact that is imposed by the location of the HQs. - It is a quoted company with a lot of stakeholders so of course the pace and intensity of work is quite high, but i think this is not specific to Avis Europe.
