Pros

Local instructors and staff at the Illinois Media School are wonderful to work with. It's fun to watch the students grow and become excited about their careers.

Cons

Work load is outrageous at the Illinois Media School. The school is notorious for bad leadership. If someone leaves, the rest of the staff is forced to carry on the workload of missing employees (yes, including the cleaning/janitorial staff). Toxic environments with only the corporate puppets allowed big promotions. Admissions Dept at IMS gets special treatment from corporate since they hold the same unethical and money-hungry values. Federal laws, both labor and education, are definitely being broken with this school's unorganized environment. There is no structure and there are no processes. This company is very top-heavy, giving higher admin all the benefits and rewards, leaving the local staff behind. There is no HR representative, and we were forced off our insurance plan with little to no notice and placed on an out-of-network plan without any consultation. Employees are threatened with their jobs when certain systems are implemented by inexperienced employees. Can't wait until their audit comes around so the truth can come to light.

Pros

Many of the students are great people who dream of making their lives better

Cons

Toxic company, the business model is revolved around persuading students to take out loans for overpriced programs with the hope they will become famous in a dying industry. Career department stretches the truth on placements, a few students end up with great jobs, but most are back to the same grind they had prior with loans to pay back to the school, the solution? Come back to school again and pay another 10K to specialize! The education department is underfunded, it is a problem when there are 3 times as many admissions advisors vs. student advisors, that says where the priorities are held. Admissions department stretches the truth, corporate admissions director encourages it in order to hit the metrics. Instructors(especially assistant instructors) are not paid well. FYI - the recent positive reviews here & on indeed are clearly from the corporate office, apparently, nobody wants to work here, I wonder why? It is a revolving door, most end up fired, only a small handful of us have left on our own
