      Good leadership and decent colleagues despite low pay

      Pros

      Leadership was great (at my location), benefits are decent, most people in the department are kind.

      Cons

      pay is low, the educational assistance program is very meek, depending on your branch, working with the public can be stressful, hours are a bit of a stretch.

      Great coworkers and benefits, but poor upper management

      Pros

      Good coworkers, great benefits for full-time employees. Some branches are a great time to work at, others not so much.

      Cons

      Really really bad upper management. Lots of gossip and nepotism. Staff who has "upset" management are overlooked for positions, while brand new staff get promoted. Very antiquated systems of application and interviews. It feels more like a corporation than a library. I have only met the director once, long enough to say hello.
