I worked at Buckeye Partners full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    Teamwork, challenging assignments, and empowerment

    Cons

A bit too little processes and procedures and possibly too lean. Standardization and planning would increase efficiency. Additional resources and controls needed in some areas. Although they have been highly successful using the current means and methods.

The people are amazing, I enjoy getting to work in the morning and working with my group, autonomy to get your job done in your way, plenty of opportunities, great exposure to all levels of the entire company

    Cons

Confused vision of the future, won’t spend thousands of dollars on very useful resources but will spend millions of dollars on failed acquisitions

I have been working at Buckeye Partners full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Independence to work on your own and develop your own initiatives, no micro-management (heavily dependent on department/manager), good direction of the company,

    Cons

There's a pretty big disconnect between the two HQs, as well as the field. There are some older folks who do very little but have been there forever. An aging workforce makes it difficult for younger people to connect and fit in.

I worked at Buckeye Partners full-time

    Pros

    - Great coworkers - Good to decent benefits

    Cons

    - Poor management resulting in ridiculously high turn over rate. There was a department with rounds and rounds of 100% turn over rate within Period of 6 months. Many employees were terminated quietly and many have left the firm within a very short period of time. Company and team moral, especially in the accounting department, was extremely low. - If you try to address the moral and employee recognition issues with management and HR, don’t even bother, because they would make it sound like they did not know anything about what is going on, and eventually you are the one being blamed for all the reasons that why everything happened. Overall, Management is Lacking of sense of responsibility. Management Leadership skill is another aspect of the high turn over rate. - Hard work and dedication won’t get recognized and appreciated. Unless you are the ones that belong to pre-determined promotion list, you will certainly get overlooked. Multiple instances of employees left the team for this same reason in a short time. So it said a lot of the promotion culture here. There were junior employee with limited experience but got promoted to management role within 2 months of joining the team, while others takes years and years of dedication and hard-work to prove themselves, and at the end was told by management that it has not been enough and the being blamed on for the reason being overlooked. At the same time, the punishment and discipline process for wrong doing is implemented very well and also very harsh (evidenced by many employees were terminated quietly). - Overall, This company embraces the problematic and contradicting culture when it comes to promotion, termination and retain talents.

I worked at Buckeye Partners full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The 401k contribution is one of the best in the country. Most coworkers are very good at their job and have a lot of experience - it was rare that someone wouldn't know the answer or be able to reach a solution as a team. Buckeye is very generous in providing or paying for training/learning opportunities if they can be leveraged to improve your knowledge or performance. There are big opportunities available to you if you are aggressive in achieving your goals and going above and beyond. Some may view this as a con; the workload is typically high and often challenging, but will make you better in your career overall. Having left the company, I've fully realized how over-prepared I've become just by doing what is 'normal' at Buckeye.

    Cons

Health insurance cost is quickly getting out of control - many other companies are subsidizing much better than Buckeye is trending. It's odd since the other benefits are very good. A single department in particular restructures and promotes multiple times a year - secret promotions throughout whereas every other group is typically forced to wait and be evaluated annually. A few employees simply delegate their entire job to a dozen others instead of learning how to do the tasks themselves. This issue gets masked by the majority of other employees who manage to pick up the slack and make lagging employees look competent.
